Bored Ape Yacht Club to release a movie trilogy in collaboration with Coinbase and ApeCoin.
The BAYC NFT collection, which has gathered a huge fan base worldwide, is going even more mainstream with the launch of its new three-movie franchise called “The Degen Trilogy.”
The trilogy is in partnership with the popular crypto exchange, Coinbase. The exchange made the announcement known via a tweet on April 11.
Coinbase said it might not profit from the film. Why? An unnamed non-profit organization will receive net proceeds from the film. The American exchange stands to gain something much more though: a connection of Web3 communities through its projects.
When is the Bored Ape Yacht club movie release date?
The BAYC NFT movie will premiere on June 20th and 23rd of this year at NFT.NYC. There’s no further information on the movie at the time of writing.
The film’s location is a chaotic Midtown Manhattan, in the 2020’s. The prologue begins with “for the first time, digital goods and services have outpaced all other indicators as a measure of value in the market.”
“As the old system crumbles, a whole new realm springs forth from the ashes. Enter the Degens – a new class of social adept, versed in the constantly re-invented tools of an ever accelerating economy.”
Coinbase has even gone ahead to set up a media division for the movie’s production, headed by entertainment and culture marketing director, William Swann.
“We are dedicated to creating and supporting content projects that speak directly to our community and sustaining the culture of Web3 innovation,” Swann said.
Can Bored Ape holders participate in the movie?

Yes, they can! To participate in the upcoming movie as a holder, you would need to get a Coinbase wallet. You would also need to submit your Ape for casting along with its character descriptions.
The Apes will also have to ‘hide an Easter egg’ for auditions. Holders of the Mutant Ape Yacht Club Owners would also get to audition for the second part of the trilogy. Sadly, participants not included are members of the of the Bored Ape Kennel Club.
Additionally, holders of the Bored Ape NFTs will share a pool of $10,000 in Apecoin and Bitcoin. This sum will be generated from the film’s licensing rights, which will be recorded on-chain.
BAYC is one of the top NFT projects, with a current floor price of almost 125 ETH on OpenSea. Created by Yuga Labs, it has recorded over $1.5 million worth of sales since launching in April 2021.
Much like Kevin Smith’s NFT-film, this interactive film series will act as a catalyst to bring as many people as possible to the crypto and NFT economy.
We are eager to see just how huge this movie’s impact will be!
